Software

I’m begging you, pleading with you, just round file all three of these dreaded applications. To me, they are viruses themselves. They hog all your memory and hinder the speed of your computer. Have you ever wondered why your computer boots up so slow? It’s because they have 10-20 of their processes running in the background. They have hijacked America’s computers!!! It’s tyranny!!!!! Ok, maybe it’s not a conspiracy, but seriously, do something drastic. Unistall them NOW.

If you are hanging on to AOL simply because you want to keep your email address there, stop being an unwise steward of your cash. AOL will let you keep your email address for free. You can access it directly on the web. Don’t pay for your internet service AND AOL. Drop them like a rock, and take their horrid software off your beautiful machine. For those who think AOL is how to get to the internet, it’s not. AOL is not the internet. It is a proxy or a middleman program to the internet. You don’t have to use their software to access the internet. You can use Firefox or the browser of your choice to view the internet as long as you have DSL, Cable, or some other form of internet service. (P.S. If you have AOL broadband, you still don’t have to use AOL software. Use your lightweight browser of choice.)

NORTON AND MCAFEE have a free replacement. That’s right! No more silly yearly subscription fees. AVG Antivirus Free Edition is here to save the day. You can download your free copy at: http://free.grisoft.com

For Adware and Spyware removal use the free tool, Spybot Search and Destroy. It is simply the best and easiest tool available. Download your free copy at: http://www.safer-networking.org. Make sure you update the software, run the immunization process, and then search for problems.

I promise you, you will see a huge difference in the performance of your computer. Lastly, don’t buy a fancy shmancy firewall program. Turn your Windows firewall on. I have not had a single virus in years by doing the above.

P.S. It’s usually the users fault when they get a virus. Stay on the beaten path, don’t go on stray internet sites. Don’t talk to strangers…I’m not your father, but I sure sound like him!
